Antiques

A family business for 102 years this year!

For 102 years, my family has offered antiques of all varieties. The elements of business I have been handed down are that of honesty & integrity. I stand behind all items I offer for sale and I try to describe them as best as I can.

Art

Oil on canvas portrait of Henry (Harry) Cumpston by William Matthew Prior.  Signed and dated 1834 on back of canvas.  In a mahogany frame, probably original.  35" X 31".  History and information available.  Lined with some restoration.

Watercolor portrait of a gentleman with a white scarf. On the cardboard backing is written "John Smith 1825". 9" X 7 7/8".

An oil on board by L.L. Edwards. Signed lower right. It is a nice little scene of field and trees with soft colors. Lionel Louis Edwards 1874-1954. From AskArt: "Lionel Louis Edwards (1874-1954), settled in Los Angeles in 1889. He was a member of the California Art Club and the Painters and Sculptor of Los Angeles." Overall: 13 1/4" X 16 7/8". Sight: 8 7/8" X 12 3/8".

An oil on canvas by C. Herbert.  Signed lower left.  Probably English. The painting dates to the 19th century and is a contemporary frame. It is a very pleasant pastoral scene. Sight: 19" X 28". Overall: 25" X 34".

“The Broker” This is a depiction of a monetary transaction in a broker’s shop. This genre scene is a fun oil on canvas, unsigned painting in a late 19th century walnut cove frame. The painting dates to the early 20th century and is in very good condition. It measures 24” X 21”.

This is a near pair of calligraphy paintings done in colored chalk and watercolor and framed in gold cove frames. They are exceptional in execution and done by the same hand. They are both signed in the bottom center. The one with doves is signed “Penmanship E. Bambeck 1876 1880” while the peacock has no “Penmanship”. An unusual aspect is that the painting is performed on black backing. The doves measure 21” X 26 ¾” and the peacock measures 22” X 28”.

Here is an outstanding oil on canvas by William Paskell of a windmill alongside of a harbor. It is signed lower left and is housed in a solid and probably original frame. This has been in my collection and has hung in my house for over 20 years but it needs to find a new home. It has wonderful color and presence. It measures 22 ½” X 30 ¼”. It dates from circa 1900.

Unsigned oil on canvas. This picture with cows is attributed to NY state and has been cleaned; the frame has also had some work done to bring it back functionally. It is a very pleasing view with subtle colors. Circa 1870-1900. It measures 22” X 32”

Wonderfully colorful tinsel painting of a compote of fruit.  Fine detail and condition.  Housed in a mahogany veneered frame.  13 1/2" X 15 3/4"

Vibrant colorful oil on canvas still life with a red parrot.  Attributed to Volney Allan Richardson, Buffalo, NY.  Early 20th century.  31" X 24".
